Winter Soups

Winter Soups

Winter has arrived, and for many, that means one thing: it’s cold! Whether there is already snow on the ground, or the cold is just starting to settle in, there are some things that help when trying to stay warm. Of course, bundling up with soft blankets and fuzzy socks can help, but when the chill reaches down to your bones, you need something to warm you from the inside. Hot chocolate and warm cider are great, but a hearty bowl of soup is the perfect remedy on a cold winter’s night.

A classic is always tomato soup, best served with a gooey grilled cheese sandwich, made with vegan cheese of course! This warm, creamy soup is perfect for a cozy night in, and kids will love it too.

Of course, not everyone likes tomato soup. Luckily there are plenty of options. In a previous article, we talked about Miso Soup. For vegans and vegetarians alike, miso soup is a delicious, go-to meal that warms you from the inside out. It is also a great introduction to tofu, but you don’t have to include tofu if you don’t like it! Offering delicious umami flavors in a warm broth, miso is perfect on a chilly afternoon.

Another twist on a classic is pea soup, but this one is entirely raw. Featuring a delicious blend of vegetables, this soup is smooth and creamy, a perfect meal for mature palates. Kids may not be thrilled by pea soup, but this one is sure to please. This soup is raw, so all the nutrients are preserved.

Soup is usually thought of as a savory food, but it can take a sweet turn. Kids especially will love this unusual treat: Mango Soup! This soup is served cold, this citrusy soup is a fun sweet treat made with mango and orange. Ward off winter illness with a blast of vitamin C.

Give these fun and flavorful soups a taste this winter, and make sure to stay warm and safe! If you make any of these recipes, be sure to tag Foods Alive on Instagram and Facebook, or add a picture of your creation on our Pinterest page! Stay healthy, and happy cooking!
