Creating Your Stress-Free Space

Creating Your Stress-Free Space

In the stressful world whirling around us today, it’s important to have a space to act as your stress-free zone. To do that, you only need a few simple things. Wherever you call home, you can turn it into a safe haven to help you destress.

The first thing you can do to help your mind calm down is to declutter your space. By clearing your desk, tidying your room, or even just straightening the pillows on the sofa, you can help yourself to unwind. By cleaning a little, your brain is less likely to become overwhelmed or distracted.

Once your space is clear, take a look at what fills your space. Does it bring you joy? Do the things that surround you give you peace or remind you of your stress? In order to create your space, be sure to fill it with things that bring you peace and calm. If you bring stressful activities such as work, paying bills, or other things that cause you distress, your brain may come to associate that place with those things. Be certain to reserve that space for calming activities such as reading, journaling, or art.

There are many things that can help create a calm, peaceful space. Try lighting some scented candles, placing throw pillows and afghans on sofas, or hanging up your favorite pieces of art. These things are a great way to create a sense of calm wherever you are. By surrounding yourself with things you love, you are able to feel that you belong in that space.

You can also change up your space with the time of year! Cozy things like blankets and pillows are great for the winter, but you can also create an amazing space in the warmer months too. Try setting a bowl of fruit on your coffee table or switching out your candles for an essential oil diffuser. You can choose lighter scents that are more reminiscent of summer like citrus or mint.

Your stress-free zone doesn’t have to be limited to one location though. Take your relaxing activities with you! In the summer, you can set up a hammock and enjoy the breeze along with a nice outdoor nap. In the autumn, throw on a thick sweatshirt or a light jacket and go on a nature walk without your phone. Taking time to enjoy nature can be incredibly relaxing. If winter has arrived, try taking your reading or journaling to a local coffee shop and watch the snowfall with a warm beverage.

There is no such thing as a stress-free life. However, you definitely can have your stress-free time and space. Once you’ve finished your work for the day, or if you just need a break, you can come to this haven to allow yourself time to relax. We all need to take time away from the stressful world we live in, and we always can if we dedicate such a space.
