Sneak in that Spinach!
"Eat your greens" says every mom on the planet... But what if it's hard for you to enjoy them?
Lucky for you, we're here to give you new ideas on how to increase your green consumption, specifically with spinach, without even tasting it.
Spinach is considered a superfood. It's extremely nutrient-rich and contains essential vitamins and minerals that the body needs in order to function. It's an amazing source of fiber, iron, and calcium - all in which work together for proper digestion, oxygen production, and bone health.
Here are 5 tips on how to incorporate more spinach into your diet:
1. Put spinach in your smoothies
An easy way to incorporate greens into your diet is to put them into your smoothies. A handful of spinach in your smoothie can go a long way for your health without you even tasting the leafy greens. Make yourself a blueberry spinach smoothie with a banana, handful of blueberries, a few strawberries, milk of choice, and of course, a handful of spinach. I promise you won't taste the greens.
2. Add blended spinach to your soup
Blend together a handful of spinach with one cup of water and add it to any soup. As stated before, spinach is essentially tasteless so it would not effect the taste of the soup in any way. Due to the chlorophyll, the color of the soup may change, but not the taste. You can incorporate this leafy green into any desired soup of choice.
3. Add spinach to sauces
It is so easy to add greens into your sauces. Simply blend spinach and add it into pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce, or any sauce desired. Doing this will allow you to receive the benefits of the leafy greens while not even knowing they're in there.
4. Blend it into your hummus or dip
Hummus, already being a healthy dip, can become even healthier by just adding blended spinach. The hummus will still be the hummus it once was, but kicked up a few health notches! Making your own dip is also a possibility. On our Foods Alive website we have the perfect dip that incorporates spinach - Spinach Dip Made with Cashew Sour Cream. This dip is perfect, refreshing, and a great snack to have with our Flax Seed Crackers, or even any veggie!
5. Muffins, cupcakes, or waffles
Yeah, you heard it right... muffins, cupcakes, AND waffles. Sounds gross but it's really not. Its so easy to incorporate this nutrient-dense food in sweets because of the tastelessness that it has. There are many recipes out there where you're able to find how to incorporate spinach into these dishes. Throw them into the batter, bake, and your all set.
These are just the few of the many ways on how to incorporate spinach into your diet without even realizing its there.
As spinach is mostly tasteless, you can hide it in just about anything you can think of. Kick up your recipes a few health notches by incorporating this superfood that is full of nutrition!
